    ????Texas License Question????

Do you need a hunting license when hunting pen raised quail? Have a couple guys going with us on a hunt this friday and they do not have a license right now do they need one?

My understanding is if you hunt anything in Texas you need a license.

I would assume that if you need a license to hunt exotics and hogs you would need it for quail too....

        That is my understanding.

In the grand scheme of things, why risk it?

Yes, along with the Upland Game Bird Stamp.

there must be in possesion a hunting license with any hunter hunting any game species pen raised or not, if they are shooting released pen birds. its still considered hunting being it is a game species with a closed season.

I agree with all that but I didn't think you needed a license for hogs

You need a hunting license to hunt anything in Texas along with the proper endorsement if applicable.

In certain situations land owners are allowed to shoot animals that are a nuisance without a license but I do not think quail are considered a nuisance.

You do not need a license to shoot coyotes and hogs that are depredating if you are the landowner or the landowners agent(leasee). A buddy of mine just got finished fighting this in court because he did not have a archery stamp while he was hog hunting during the opening weekend of bow season.

That is correct but at the same time the animal has to be in the act of destroying your land.

                            Here is a link.

                            about hogs and yotes

To answer the original question, you do need a license

do quail destroy land? :-) just kidding, I plan to let our hunting compadres' know to get a license. I was just curious how many people knew the answer to this question. I've been hunting all my life and when asked I can't say I really knew the answer. There are some fishing trips you can take and not need a license. Would I need a license to hunt a buddy's chickens? So why pen-raised quail? Any how thanks for the input and Merry Christmas!
