Deer in Fence question

I have run into this before. You need to call the txpw they will give you a special tag to put on the antlers if for some reason you want to take the deer to the taxidermist. We had a really good 159" 10 point that we hunted for 3 years. we found him dead during the spring shed hunt. we werent sure what to do so we called the game warden. he came out and tagged the deer with a special tag and gave us permission in writing to possess the deer. he told us to do this anytime we find one in this condition.

Originally posted by bmac View PostI dont think you would have to tag it. Accoring to TPWD the tag stays with the carcass not the head. A WRD should accompany the head but that may get into a GW question since you found it dead in a fence. If you had to tag it than that would mean you would have to tag shed from the woods right?
