That is a smart use of a nuisance critter to get rid of some more critters that are even more useless

I know some people that used diesel soaked burlap wrapped around a tpost.
I also know of one instance where some wild hogs got into a garage and turned over a bucket of used motor oil and proceeded to make a very big mess

I've used carpet to put hog attractants on and hang it in the trap.

I didn't see any increase of hogs at the trap or feeders that I could attribute to the attractants.

I have a 6 foot piece of telephone pole laying on the ground next to the trap. They love that thing.

Plain old corn has been the most productive bait for me. When all the corn is gone under the feeder some of them will go into the trap to get some more even though they know they're taking a chance.

If you can find a source for a lot of carpet or tons of burlap sacks just get some bobwire and wrap the carpet or sacks around any tree nearby and dump oil all over the sacks or carpet, the hogs will rub the bark and the sacks off of the tree really quick, prob would not last a week down here where I am if by a feeder. Some of the tank batterys leak oil once in a while and the hogs all go into the mess to wallow and rub the trees for several feet by the spilled oil, javalinas will do the same thing, oil makes the tick jump off and crawl on hunters in the area so yes it works!!!! I have seen guys buy some 3.8 inch chain and make a rub by wraping tow sacks around the length of chain and suspend it over a gate entrance or by a feeder pen, it takes about 40 sacks to make a thick roller they wont tear up real quick, you need to use smooth barb wire so the hogs wont wreck it in a day, soak oil up and down the wrapped sacks and they will go mad!!! Another thing i have seen is a 55 gallon barrel full of used oil on rack with a valve set to just drip slowly on the ground, prob is hogs will come and turn over the rack or wipe out the valve to get more oil out, they love it and will come back time and time again!!! Might make the hog meat kinda taste like the old Texaco Javilana(havolina) oil!!lol

Yep, we've tried it and it works great. Ya'll just reminded me of 20 gals on diesel I have sitting out back that has just a little bit of gas in it, that I now have a use for! (don't ask how the gas got in the diesel....it was an expensive lesson).

We used to use old railroad ties down in Florida. Go where the swamps were and dig a hole to put the end of the tie in. The hogs would rub a groove around some of the posts. In the same area we would do the oil thing too usually around where they would change the oil on the palm tree tractors they would coat themselves in it.

I think the old telephone poles suggestion a good one.Just look at the poles where you know you have hogs. There's your proof.

It works but it's tough to skin an oily pig.

I buried 2 pieces of used telephone poles 4ft deep x 4ft tall and pour my used diesel oil on them. The hogs use the heck out of them.

This kind of info is priceless to me! Growing up a "city boy" S. Hou& Pasadena,, you just dont learn these things.
The hogs at my bro in laws place in Leona ,, are pretty transit. Maybe some of these tricks can get them to visit more often.
Im not sure my bro , realized what kind of door he opened when he said ,, " go up whenever, hunt it , put stands whatever."
Ha,,, but at least he & my nephew will have a equipped place to hunt ,, when they go once a year.
