oils soaked carpet to attract hogs

I know the EPA wont like it but I have heard that nailing a piece of carpet to a tree or telephone pole and pouring motor oil on it will attract hogs. Said it works under the same premise of hogs rubbing telephone poles to get the oil out of them. Has anyone done this?

I know some guys who did that but they used diesel soaked carpet. I think the hogs rub on it to get the bugs off of them.

            Next question: Was it effective?

It was effective in the sense that pigs used it....it was not effective in guaranteeing you a pig sighting while in the blind.

But Jason these are high fence hogs so wouldnt they be just as easy to kill as my high fence deer?

They should be tied up under the protein feeder....the carpet would make them more comfortable until you got there..

I hunted a ranch that used them to put flea and tick dip on the carpet.. hogs rub on it.. go in brush rub on trees and I saw a big difference in the ticks on the game we took from this ranch!!

I have heard that you can just pour used oil on the ground and they'll use it the same way. I really wanna know what would you use to scare/chase away hogs? They are tearing up our place since all the rain came back.

Anybody know where to get creosote? I would LOVE to have 5 gallons of that stuff. Its what the use on telephone poles and the hogs go nuts over new telephone poles!

I accidentally shot a hole in a flow line onetime and oil went all over everything.(shot a hog and the bullet went through him and hit the underground line) My uncle laughed and called me Jed Clampit. I was going to try and clean up all the oil and my uncle told me to leave it alone. The next week I came back and the hogs had totally routed up everything with oil on it. About a quarter acre. (Oh ya still got the peace of pipe I had to cut out to fix the leak).

Old telephone poles work great. I think it is to get the bugs off.
