    30 yds. comfortable
40 if it's an open opportunity.

Here in south east Texas I try very hard to keep all my shots 30 yards and under. I have taken two bucks over 40 yards but I will not shoot that far any more. Shot placement is so important to a clean quick kill and a short blood trail that I try to keep the range as short as possible. The woods I hunt are very thick and I hunt in the thickest stuff that I can find deer in so 30 yards is a very long shot most of the time anyway. SO much can happen between the time you release the arrow and it finds its target, Even at 20 yards a deer and do a 180* if it's spooky. I've seen it happen. That's my feeling on it anyway.

Depends on the situation and what animal. I think I can effectively shoot a deer at 50 if the circumstances are right. I generally set up to where my shot opps are 30 or less with the occasional 40 yd shot

My effective range is 30 yards. I practice shooting all the time out to 50 yards, but don't feel comfortable that I can make a shot past 30 once the old buck fever kicks in.

I agree with the others especially for whitetail 30 and in preferred. Exotics most at 40 and in. Sika buck once at 65. I would not consider those if they were free ranging.

While I might practice out to 50, I have never made a shot over 25. Can't say I won't, just haven't had to.

I agree that it depends on the situation: how calm the animal is, weather conditions (wind), etc. It also depends on if I'm at ground level or elevated. I tend to overestimate yardage when I'm up off the ground. On average, I'd say 25 yds. for both.

My longest shot ever was 37 yards on a black buck. I try to limit my shots to 30 yards. The closer the better

I will not shoot any live animal past 30yds. I shoot 3-D out to 50+ a lot, But that is foam.

I like 15, but I'll let it fly 30yds on deer.

It all depends on my comfort level at the moment. Every hunting shot is different!
