30 and less. Prefer around 15. That goes for compound and xbow.
Guess I like to look em in the eye

I would take a shot as far as 40 yards, only if the deer was completely relaxed. Farthest one I've ever taken was 27 yards.

I'll love to stick one at 70.

I practice from 10-80 yards. With whitetails anything over 30 yards is unnecessary because of the way we hunt them here. If I had a 190" muley or a 340" bull elk at 60, I would definitely take the shot.

58 yrs is longest kill shot (closest I could get on spot and stalk)
Several in the 38 yrd to 44 yrd range
I set up to have between a 20 yrd to 40 yrd shot for the most part.

I practice out to 60 yards but feel anything pass 40+ yards is iffy

For whitetail I like 30yds or less but will pull the trigger out to 45yds if I think it's the only opportunity I'll get. In the case of a long shot I'll go for a heart shot - if I hit low ill miss clean and if I hit high, odds are ill get a lung.

On a big slow animal, like an elk, I'm comfortable pulling the trigger to 80yds but would really prefer 60yds or less.

Practice at 40 and kill at 20.

An archer tries to see how far away he can hit the target. A bow hunter tries to see how close he can get his target.

After reading some of these posts, I understand why there are so many non-recovered animals.

I'll be honest 25 is it for me. I practice at 30-35 all the time but don't think I would stretch past 25. My eyes aren't good enough, and I'm not lucky enough to depend on good fortune.

I practice out to 50 but I try and limit it to 30 yards. But I did shoot my doe this year at 42. A lot depends on the deer though. If they are real alert and skittish I won't try past 25/30. But let me get one feeding and relaxed i will let it fly out to 40-45.
