    Lucky Me!! But need advice!!

Every year the company I work for buys a couple of deer hunts for our customers and some employees. Last year I was lucky enough to be given a shot at a real nice mid 130 class 10 pointer; thanks to my boss. Well this year due to company expense cut backs, it wasn't looking good for me to get a chance at a deer. Although my boss is scheduled to take a group of customers on a top notch deer hunting trip, here in South Texas. Well one of the customers called last week and said he didn't think he was going to make the trip. I then told my boss; I guess I can play customer for a weekend. Well I guess the bluff worked cause this morning he said the customer confirmed he was not going to make the trip. So guess what I was told? Yup, the good o'l boss man said; well I guess you can take his spot and shoot his deer.. Now here's the deal, I can shoot the deer with bow or rifle, so of course I want to shoot with my bow. So I then ask the boss man what size of deer I'm good for, and he said 160!! The ranch guide said he will guarantee a shot at a 140-150 class with a bow but a shot at a 160 with a rifle. Also the boss said he don't think we will make it back out this year, if we do not kill this time. My question to you guys, is what would you guys use for a weapon if you were put in this situation

Take em both and be proud of what you shoot either way. Chances like that don't come along very often.

Rifle just because you have a short time to kill out.

I may be biased, But I have a 152 1/8 on my wall that I shot with a rifle and it does not have the same meaning as my 141 with a bow. Kinda the same deal for me, when I lucked in to the hunt, The guide was not sure he wanted a "Bowhunter", It's all what means the most to you. I know what I would do, But I'm not you. Go after what you want and enjoy the hunt

Only you can answer that question.
Which method (regardless of the score) is going to make you feel better when you tell people about the hunt?

I'm with mbolt. Have many larger deer with rifle than with bow, but no doubt which ones I brag about.

On the flip side I still hunt with rifle at my FIL's place due to it not being set up for bowhunting and me living out of state. I will not hesitate to shoot a deer with a rifle and do not/will not feel guilty about doing it.

Good luck with your choice and I hope you share the pics regardless of what you take it with.

One thing I'd consider is how many archery 140's are on your wall. If you have several I'd go for a BIG buck. I'd bring both with me and try archery first and then if things aren't happening then go to the bang stick.

Take both and use the bow if you can.

i personally would use a bow. but apparently that makes people elitists on here these days so be careful

I am the same as the others. My biggest is with a rifle but my motto is " Dead is Dead" I don't care how he taken as long as he's mine.

I think I'm going to take both bow and rifle. It's a 4 day hunt so I am going to make a huge effort to take a good deer with my bow. If it comes down to the last day and still no bow kill I will try to take a deer with a rifle. My best deer with rifle or bow is the buck I mentioned they gave me last year; mid 130 class 10 pointer. So I still have alot to look forward to...Thanks guys any other opinions would be nice just to see what other peoples thoughts are on this situation..Lates!!

If you ask then it obviously doesn't matter to you and quite honestly who cares what we "think".

If I were you I would take both and setup to bow hunt in an area where I could see a long range. Try to draw them in close - but just in case drop the hammer if you have to!

I'm a die hard religious bowhunter but put in your shoes - one time only, free guaranteed 160. I might just loose my religion. BOOM!
