    Leveling kits

Thinking really seriously about getting it done...

    1) Does a leveling kit on a truck lift the front end or drop the back end?

    2) Does it make for a rougher ride?

    3) Does it really bring down gas mileage?

    3) If you have or have had one done would you recommend it for a daily driver 4x4?

    Thanks again TBH brain trust!

Did my 04 2500 4x4 dodge cummins about a year ago it's great. did my buddies 05 last night. Did not change mileage, it didn't change ride because you use stock parts. It lifts the front. www.hellbentsteel.com

Did it to my 06 f150 the same day I had the brushbaurd put on. Looks a ton better and I noticed no ride or mileage differences.

          1) Does a leveling kit on a truck lift the front end or drop the back end? Raises front end

          2) Does it make for a rougher ride? The reason I did mine was to put on bigger tires and wheels, so it does ride rougher, but that is the tires not the lift.

          3) Does it really bring down gas mileage? Yes it did on mine because of the bigger rubber

          3) If you have or have had one done would you recommend it for a daily driver 4x4? I think they look better for a daily driver. the main reason I would recommed it for use off road. I am not a 4x4 junky but the added tire size sure helps with ground clearance

One thing to consider is do you do a 2 inch or 2.5 inch??

On my truck the 2.5 inch made the front just a tad high. BUT if and when I put on a grill guard it will sit just right. Air bags on the rear help it sit level now, but make it ride rougher

BYW if you are thinking of getting tires and wheels there is a guy in Norman, Ok that does a heck of a deal. It might be worth checking his prices. Pm me if you want his name.

I put them on my 04 F350 about a year ago. I didn't reall notice any differences in mileage or ride. Just got some clearance for bigger rubber and leveled it out. I have airbags in the rear so I can level it perfectly. The bags are for towing but have a side benefit of leveling out. I think mine raised the front 2.5 inches. I got mine at 4 wheel parts over by Bass Pro Shops. I bought shocks too so I don't remember the price, I think about $350? Install took about 4 hours and 8 beers (which = about 2 hours without) I have the solid front axle on mine so they were leaf springs

              Thanks for the info fellas.

I just bought my new baby last week and just had a $800 set of tires put on it (mount/balance included of coarse). So I won't be changing tires anytime soon. I want the leveling kit for looks first and the extra clearance would be nice too.

So did you guys do it yourself or have it done? Any special tools or experience necessary ?

Looks good yes but I did it on my old 2004 F150 crewcab 4x4 and it ended up wearing our the joints really early.

Rut-Row. I don't want it if it's going to cause problems...

There are some different styles and some might be better than the other. Go on some truck forms for your style of truck and do a search for leveling kits.

Ok, anyone have a 04-09 f150 with leveling kit?

                      Pics?
                      Size?
                      Brand?
                      Tire size?

I used autosprings (from e-bay) on my 04.

I'd stick with the 2" instead of the 2.5".

If you put a blade of grass in the bed of mine it will go nose up and that is with the 2".

I love mine. Rides well, mileage the same and really improved the look of my Suburban.

The "kit" that I bought is basically a spacer that fits atop your struts. Very easy to put on, but you need to make sure that there are no clearance issues with lines, etc....especially if you went with wider tires.

go for it. i did mine 100,000 miles ago, on torsion bar systems it does stiffen it up a little bit. but you dont "roll" or lean as much in turns. i also added a 1" block in the rear cause i made mine too level.

the drop in gas milage is a myth, the taller tire covers say 105" at one rotation. the stock shorter tire covers 92" at one rotation. you travel further than what the trip says when you switch to taller tires. the trip meter shows you didnt go as many miles as you did the same route before even though the same amount of gas is burned off.

Yup, that is a drawback on the f150's at least.

I initially put the spacers on the front of my 07 f150 supercrew 2wd and it leveled it out alright, but if you had any weight in the back or pulling a trailer, forget about it....looked like you had some blown out rear suspension. Ended up putting in some stock ford 4wd blocks in the back and that gave me 1.5 to 2 inch in height again in the rear but the sag from weight was still there....so put in add-a-leafs and everything was hunky dory from there on out....then I traded it in a couple months later on an 09 supercrew....time to do it all over again...
