I have owned two bows and both lasted several yrs.
the bow I have now, I purchased new in 2004 and the strings are just showing wear at the bottom near cam.

Do you just tell them make and model of bow,etc.. or how do you "order" strings,etc..? I need to go ahead and replace mine on my current bow since they are showing wear and are 5 yrs old.

Who keeps up with the shots fired in your bow?
Me. Practice the same practice. I know how many shots i take at tournys and how many shots during season. I can tell you how many shots within 200 at years end.

You're supposed to change your strings?

Maybe I've never shot the same bow long enough to wear them out.

My bow is six years old, and I am probably going to change the string after this season.

Should be a sticker on your limb that tells you cable info and string legnth.

My strings and cable were on for 3 years before I had them replaced, but when I had them replaced the shop told me that they were stretched out of spec. I did shoot alot of leagues and tournaments in that 3 years.

                      I do twice a year.

Once when 3d season starts and once again when hunting season starts.

Your ATA is the key to changing strings.....Check your strings with the Mfg. specs and then keep track of them every year. Once they get out of spec range +/- 3/8" its time to change... You may typically see around 1/8-1/4" difference depending on the make of the strings. If you use certain " internet strings" or Other strings they may have your bow out of spec anyways..... I usually check my stuff every 4 months.....and i make my annual check for sure about 30 to 45 days before season so i have time to tune and shoot before season kicks off.

From what i have heard when replacing your strings you need to know your Strand count, serving type and yoke style. these are Key in replacing the right strings on your bow.

Best bet to keep your bow in spec is to use Mfg. Strings. Buying strings from the internet sellers say they pick up speed because they may pull you bow to a 1/4"-3/8" shorter ATA and say hey you can pick up 5-14fps....well anybody can put a few twists on their strings and pick up some speed but your bow will not be tuned correctly to mfg spec.

                        Mathews-Zebra
                        Hoyt-Fuse
                        Etc, Etc.

Treat it like it is your prized possession. Keep it tuned and cleaned regularly....Raggly strings can make the bad shot that much worse...and they are fairly cheap maintenance that can make your bows last years and years....
