Has anyone here had facet injections? Prayers please

I was wondering if anyone here has had facet injections and how long it took for them to recover. Tomorrow morning I'm going in for steroid injections into my lower back. I've had the same type of injections in my lower back but never in the facet joints. I'm a little worried, the last time I had a needle shoved into my spine was for a nerve block and I almost passed out. I've never in my life experienced that much pain, and I've had a few broken bones and given birth! I also had an allergic reaction from the iodine that they used for part of the injection. I would appreciate it if y'all could say a prayer that it works. We're running out of options and I'm tired of being in pain and on pain meds every day. Its been about 5 years since I've had a pain free day

Prayers for you. I hope it works and they control your pain while they administer.

Yes I have had them twice in my cervical spine area. It worked great and I have been pain free since.. 2 years now...

I was sedated the first time and second I just went with a local and did feel the injection. If you don’t have anywhere to go after the treatment get the sedation....

Done. I have had the steroid shots several times and yes, they are the most painful shots I have ever endured. Never had what you are talking about and i really hope i don't. We will keep you in our thoughts.

Shouldn't be painful other than getting through the soft tissue - much like any injection. I haven't had this done, personally, but my mother did when in her seventies and my wife has had this, too. I was with both when this was done and took them home afterwords. Neither complained about the pain, just more of a pinch.

            Good luck with your procedure.

Prayers sent. I dont' have spine problems...yet, but I have had 3 knee surgeries and in need of a 4th plus I have a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder. No one should have to live in pain. Good luck to you.

prayers sent G...... (I've had several SI joint injections which are similar)

i wouldn't wish back pain on my worst enemy !

the injections consist of a numbing medication and a time-released cortisone

the goal is to stop the pain in the facet joints and hopefully you receive long term relief

if you get very little relief , then the pain is likely coming from somewhere else and surgery may be recommended

do a google search as their is a wealth of information

That sucks, about 14 years ago I broke my knee (left side of the femur, half the joint) and had to have titanium screws put in, then removed. 4 surgeries later its as good as its going to get, I can tell you when the weather will change and it pops every time I bend or straighten it, but not much pain (Thank God!!). The last surgery I had about 5 years ago was supposed to fix that but I screwed it up. Long story but I almost shot the pest control guy. He came into my apartment with out knocking and I never recieved a notice. My dogs were staying with my ex husband while I recovered. The day after surgery I heard the door open, I jumped out of bed in a tank top and underwear with my .45 and scared the c**p outa him when I came around the corner. I was supposed to stay off my knee for 2 weeks, but have you ever tried to use crutches and a gun at the same time?

I've had SI injections but they didn't last long, I got a few days relief, if that. They used Xanax to knock me out, I was "awake" and acting somewhat normal but don't remember anything until the next morning. The cortisone did help with my allergies! When you had SI pain did it hurt to sit? did you ever get sharp pain down your legs? my pain is uhh to the right and left of my tail bone...my butt and in the facet area but so far nothing has fixed it which is why we're going for the facet joint now. I have been doing stretches every morning before I get out of bed (pulling knees up to my chest) My pain was caused from an accident I had about 5 years ago, I slipped and fell on my butt, I'm guessing if I would have been 250 pounds with a big butt instead of 120 pounds I wouldnt have these problems now. I pray every night that I wake up pain free, I hope wednesday is that morning.

I have had two radiofrequency neurotomy procedures for my facet joints. Both times were under local anesthesia with little pain during or after. They seemed to work, but I would need several more procedures to stop all of the pain. My issues are from T10-T12. Back pain is a very tough test of your mental toughness. It's very hard to deal with pain 24/7. I'm 37 and feel kind of hopeless for ever being pain free.

I had to deal with all the injections after I busted up my back. Ended up having the surgery because I feared having permanent nerve damage. And if you have numbness then it can be permanent. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you

I'm 29 and I know how you feel, it can be very depressing. The nerve block was the worst, I'll take the SI steroid injections over that any day. The Dr. gave me a little shot to numb me then went to work before I was numb! I **** near came off the table it hurt so bad, and every muscle in my body hurt from being tense I couldnt move the next day. I was about to pass out and I told him he better hurry up and get that f'in needle out of my spine. I don't remember much after that. It didnt work so i never had the nerves "burned off" and I was to scared to go back and try a different spot.

                              Where you having your shots?

I work in a pain clinic. We do facets, epidurals, joints etc all day every day. Most of the time I find that people don't experience near the pain they have been led to believe is going to be dealt to them by the doc. There are some people who have a very low pain tolerance and no amount of "concious" sedation is gonna do them any good.

I will say this, if you get good relief from a facet block but it does not last very long ask your doc about a neurotomy (google it)
