Washer toss (the game) need advice on Texas style

Throwing a party Saturday and want to setup washers in the yard. Tried researching on the internet and found a bunch of different rules, setup, etc. Couple of questions for the local experts:

Exactly how far apart are the washer holes supposed to be?

Years ago I used a buried soup can with the top cut out for the hole, any better suggestions (PVC?)? I've had boxes in the past, this time around I'm going with the buried hole type and make it a permanent fixture in the yard.

    Appreciate any suggestions!

15-20 feet, depending on size of washer and hole. It's really not that big an issue, if everyone is tossing from the same distance.

21 feet hole to hole. We would build a box even with the ground and put sand in it with a galvanized metal fence pole cut down and driven into the ground in the center of the box. 2 inch washers painted different colors. Box dimensions were 2 X 2. 1 point for closest, 3 for leaners, 5 for ringers with cover up cancellation.

All the "original" ones I saw used vienna sausage cans.

I like playing washers with 3 holes at each end.

                        front hole = 1 pt.
                        mid hole = 3 pts.
                        back hole = 5 pts.
