I despise them things worse than any snake!... I just as soon walk thru a pit of rattlers as I would see a scorpion! If I have a phobia, thats it!

Pesticides will kill them--but you have to use the right kind. We've been in this house since Jul '00 and have killed maybe 3-4 of them. No one has been stung.

also you got to watch our for the ceilings. i have had them drop down on me at night and get stung in bed
I'm sorry for laughing at your pain, but if you had that on video, you'd win the $100K!

+1 on the ceiling thing. We had some in our house several years ago and called the exterminator. They sprayed around the house inside and out, but they also set off some kind of pesticide bomb in the attic. They told us the critters nest in the insulation. Most of the ones we were seeing were on the ceiling and in the light fixtures, so it seemed to be true.

I have been stung before, they hurt like heck but no worse than a hornet sting. kind of felt like someone hut my hand with a sledge hammer though, they really pack a punch

My MIL says to put Bois D'arc fruit (Horse Apples) around the house, or in my case blind, to keep scorpions away... Old wive's tale or any truth to it?

Web search for CyperWP. It is the same as Demon, but cheaper. We rarely see them anymore since I started using this stuff.

Ice is the key to getting rid of the sting. IMMEDIATELY after getting stung, put an ice cube on the bite and the pain will go away. Very quickly actually.

My son got stung on the arm while he was stting on our couch. It came up the back of the couch and got him. He yelled, told me what happened, I put an ice cube on it and within 5 seconds he was calm.

They are nasty critters but nothing like a freaking centipede! Those things look like they came out of a science fiction movie and their sting is the worst of all of the crawling creatures-pain wise.

I catch scorpions left and right out at my parents... They don't really bother me, they sting a little, but my grandmother used to always grab a little bit of bleach when one of the grandkids got stung by something and put a little bit on it... within about 10 secs the sting was gone... I've been using that home remedy since...

I've seen a grown man strip naked in front of a crowd because a scorpion crawled up his pants leg. My grandfather was standing around a camp fire one night. He had a habit of standing right next to the fire and kicking the logs around. He was wearing coveralls and old school boxers. Suddenly he grabbed his leg, then higher, then higher, then he was stripping. Dang near got him in the Johnson.

All the talk about them being on the ceilings makes me consider sleeping in the back of the truck this season...

                          What is the common name?

Been stung twice, carrying luggage out to the car and it was on the bag, it nailed me on the leg. Knotted up and bled for about an hour, next time I was moving a hot tub and got stung on the stomach. They hurt, they used to be in our sinks and shower in an older farm house we used to live in.
