    Scorpion question

Along the lines of the rattler issue, have the same thing with scorpions on my place. They are about 3" long, light brown/tan color and have very small pincers.
I always read that the ones with small pincers are more poisonous, since they don't have the strength to kill their prey with their claws. Any bug guys out there have an idea what they are and how poisonous they are? Are we talking bee-sting or Emergancy Room?

      Do they look like this???

      Centruroides vittatus
Scorpions have 4 pairs of legs, two pinchers and a segmented tail ending in a poison gland with a stinger. This scorpion is found throughout Texas and often under rocks or boards and other litter. This scorpion is commonly found in homes and feeds on insects, spiders, centipedes and other scorpions and is active mostly at night. Similar to a bee sting, the sting from a scorpion causes pain and local swelling but usually is not serious except for rare instances of allergy for which medical attention should be sought.

Thanks guys. Just looked up "Centruroides vittatus" and the ones I have are lighter in color. One picture looks right and it says Centruroides vittatus Pantheriensis, apparently a Texas strain.

          What is the common name?

my 14 month old got popped by one a month or so ago. He screamed like crazy for about a minute and shut up as soon as we brought out the ice cream. It burns bad at first like your whole hand is on fire, then it just goes away. Now, if you are allergic, that could be a whole other issue.

How my kids have avoided being stung is beyond me. We kill about 20 a year in the house.

              From my wood pile...

yup we call them texas rock scorpions. man they hurt. i once was building a privacy fence for my folks a while back and they where in the fencing wood stack. unfortunately i didnt realize it until i had a handful of fence planks and one stung me. when i dropped the wood it acted like a trampoline and about ten of them bounce up on me and stung me all at the same time. mane that sucked. it made me a little sick for about five hours or so. mostly light headed and nauseous.

also you got to watch our for the ceilings. i have had them drop down on me at night and get stung in bed

If those things had wings I'd leave the country. They just look nasty.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day! Texas has mosquitos the size of dang birds already - we don't need that!

we have found 2 this week at my house and my parents live about 300 yards away through the woods and have found about 5 in the past 2 months. I was told pesticides dont kill them. What can you put out of spray to run them off?

Never have been stung by them but we sure have been seeing a lot of them this year at the house (outside)... Having a youngster running that isnt afraid of anything, I called an exterminator and he came out and sprayed all around the house and we havent seen any since....

Get some Demon WP or Demon XP and spray it around the house and along your baseboards...

Had a scorpion problem, until we started spraying Demon. Seemed to help at our place.
