While mule deer hunting just out of Lajitas...... found a stash of guns and drugs in a cave. Didn't touch anything and didn't hang around to meet the owners!!!!
I found a hand dug shaft about 6' across and 40' deep (in rock) on a lease we had west of Uvalde in the 70's when I was in high school. It was hundreds of yards from the closest fences/roads on a thick brushy ridge. I did a lot of walk/still hunting and thats how I found it. The landowner didn't even know it was there. We speculated that it was dug by prospectors in the 1800's. The unique thing about it was that it would be full of rattlesnakes in the wintertime. Somehow they would work their way down through cracks in the rock and winter there...I have literally seen dozens of rattlesnakes piled up in the bottom on sunny days in the middle of the day when the sun would shine down in the shaft...It never seemed "right' to shoot them there and I kept it as a pretty closely guarded secret for a long time...I just told my dad and the landowner. I used to spend my christmas school vacations down there hunting by myself (during the week...the other hunters would come in on the weekends) and I took a friend from school one year...I showed him the spot and asked him not to mess with the snakes but he went back and shot down into the shaft killing a couple of them...I never again saw snakes there in the numbers I saw before that...
Cosmic, stop off at Buccee's on 10 and look at the maps by the bathrooms. There's one map from the mid 1800's that shows a bunch of mines in that area.
About three years ago when my brother and I were getting on a new lease, we rode 4- wheelers all over the lease checking it out when we stopped at an old stand. In side the stand we found a digital picture printed off of a naked man from the neck down and in the chair was a huge terd. At first we didn't know what to think then we laughed and decided not to ever hunt that stand
In the late 70's me and dad was squirrel hunting south of Cleveland and found an old safe in the woods. It was probably 2' x 2' and heavy. The door was open and no $$$. I heard Pretty Boy Floyd and some other gangsters used to travel that area of East Texas.

I would have quit hunting and they would have been out of guns when they returned,
2 friends and I were in Oregon Blacktail hunting. A frined shot a buck and as we were tracking it we found 5 poloroid pictures of a naked girl. The picts were taken in a hotel.. We were way up in the mountains and 200 yards from the nearest logging road...
We had a lease west of ozona mabe 75-100 miles and my dad and I found a cave and the walls and the top were stained black from smoke as well as the spot where there had been the camp fires - it didnt look recent - dont know how long ago it could have been but it was neat to let the imagination wonder thinking about it
Several things I have found over the years. One was a field of "weed" on the borders of a military base about 10 years ago. I let the game warden know about it. I'm not sure what ever happened. I also found a old pistol on my dads place. But my favorite finds are some of the neat caves or what not I have ran into over the years.
I had to cut up my undies when I was 17 years old while hunting our property in Madison County. I stumbled across that same pair of undies this past hunting season and I am now 31! Top that!
Found a large RC bi-plane (8' wing span) once. Took it to the closest hobby shop in case someone went looking for it. It obviously went out of range, the flew 'til it ran out of gas.
My Father found a White Horse Whiskey Bottle. Very rare find in the area of the Navasota river bottom where we hunted.
The men sharecroppers (descendants of slaves) were rumored to get together at small shacks they built for the purpose of playing cards and consuming whiskey. (An old timey Men's Club)
Only two bottles found in 40 years around there. Both found near the ruins of the shacks.
I guess they were careful to destroy the contraband so their wives wouldn't figure it out as readily. (Some things never change)
Anyway - I thought it was neat from the historical perspective.
Only cool thing i ever found was on a mule deer hunt in mexico. It had an old volcano on it and a shrine w/ a carved statue in it that mexican's would come to worship. Had lots of abandoned caves and old houses and even a crashed prop plane from many years ago. Saw a bear coming out of the caves so i figured it was best i never went in. It also had tons of flouride mines, powdered gold and black sand in the volcano, and green, white, red, black granite all over it. absolutely breathtaking. but the hunting sucked. Shot a donkey. Not bad w/ a little salt and lime and tequila. And yes i am serious.
