Ticks and Chiggers What to Do?

Saturday was spent setting up a couple of feeders and Sunday was spent picking off ticks and last night was spent scratching chigger bites. How can I keep them off me during the season? Any suggestions?

When we are just out working, I spray my pants legs and boots with deep woods off. That usually keeps them off of you to start with. Now during season that would not work. You can also take a quick bath right after possible exposure in diluted bleach. That will kill chiggers before they bore into your skin. After about 12hours it's too late. They make stuff called chiggerrid. It's like clear fingernail polish with some sort of anti itching stuff in it.

I have hunted several years and always tuck my pants in my boots, I can say that I do not remember the last time I got a tick or chiggers. It really helps alot and cost nothing.

I use knee high rubber boots and I can't remember when I've found a tick on me, much less a chigger. The only ticks I've gotten on me from hunting that I can remember has always been after skinning a deer and then it's usually on my hand or arm.

Rubber boots are as important to me as my rangefinder. Good luck.

I've heard some folks on here swear by sulfur powder in a sock and just pat it on your clothes...you can buy the stuff @ Walgreens apparently...I haven't tried it yet but was planning to this work weekend...

Since I started wearing snake boots to the lease I haven't had any more problems

I knew a guy in the marines that would wear panyhose under his fatigues out into the field and never got ticks or chiggers on his legs. Would be a good, scent-less method if it works.

My grandfather taught me to tuck my pant legs into my boots. I don't know why that works, but it does. Also, when hunting, I've had good luck with Sawyer Products Premium Odorless Permethrin repellant. You can find it at Academy.

Spray down with off before getting dressed, every four or five hours spray down again.....once you get a chigger or tick on you enjoy the scratching....

If you aren't hunting, Off works good. You don't have to use much, but be sure to cover around you ankles, as those chiggers generally hop on and climb up.

During season, sulfer powder works fine as well. However, one thing that I have noticed is that chiggers generally are on tree limbs and brush, etc. If you can avoid contact with limbs and brush, you can avoid a lot of chiggers. The worst times I've ever got them were days we were doing brush clearing, etc. Lately, I've been using Off at the lease as I got into them bad earlier in the year.

The last couple years during hunting season, I didn't use anything, and haven't had much problems. However, I have good clean paths to my stands and try to avoid contact with trees, brush, etc.

works great for chiggers but it smells and always made me wonder about using it during deer season.

wrap flea collars around your boots.

Take the scent free garlic pills and they will stay off of you.
