At least it was a tree and not the inside wall of your garage!
Last weekend had a wild one from a home-made bow - havn't cut the handle yet, so shooting around a 2" block the handle will be carved from (I know, patience, grasshopper) but hit a can of air freshener....amazing how much pressure's in one of those things!!!
x2 on the drill - did this at my father-in-laws while practicing longbow at 40... works like a charm - relieves the pressure so you can yank on it.
I would just use one of those rubber arrow pullers and if it didn't come out, I'd screw the arrow out and leave the point there. FMJ's are some hard hitting arrows.
I shoot thin-shaft carbon elite golds and can usually get them out of wood by unscrewing the tip. I shot one through a metal fence post (stuck through the other side of the post about mid-point on the arrow) on a chain link fence the first year I got my bow (10 years or so now).
It was still sticking out of the post when I sold the house. I got a few comments when I was showing the place but don't know if the guy ever cut it out. I was just really impressed from that point forward on how careful you had to be where you pointed the bow. That was before I started bow hunting. I'm still impressed with what a bow can penetrate.
