I shot my LMT this wednesday, and it handles SO much more different than my CMMG/Franken upper with lothar walther barrel. It literally had me considering selling my 20" upper thats 1:8 and pretty **** accurate for a 20" LMT upper. The bolt cycled like butter, the rifle is lighter than my DPMS was, and it's prettier lol. I can't do it, though . Now i'm waiting for my compML2 to come in so that i can sight it in and not just plink with it. money will be saved so i can take some courses and use it properly instead of just shooting paper and little brown zombies! The 20" will be used for taking out furry critters

One of the better advantages to a midlength upper is it slows down the bolt cycling a little and allows some of the gases to dissipate before reaching the gas hole. This keeps the BCG from reacting so violently compared to how a carbine operates, and is supposed to be a lot less wear on the whole upper ***'y.

Ok, now I'm going to have to start building one of these black guns. I've been trying to stay away from all the AR talk but it's drawing me in (even though I know nothing about them). What's a decent entry level gun gonna run me? What should I research or know about them before I dive in head first.

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread now

Just bare gun, with no frills in a lmt, bcm, cmmg, 16" with a backup sight and post. Will run you around 1000, stag or rr in a decent gun will be 900. I'm building a lmt upper/spikes lower with a fa bcg, kac ras rail with od furniture, I'm trying to find a magpul acs in od right now, it is a pain. Whole thing should come in under 1100. It really depends what you want to do. Shop ar15.com in the ee.

You can get an adjustable gas block or adjustable tube and do the same thing as a middy gas length system. I'm thinking of getting an adjustable tube for my 6.5 Grendel.
