I got the idea for this thread from the one about cows, AND throwing rocks at them.

BAD idea around your feeder!

I was down in Texas a few months ago and I had this flock of ducks that would show up 10 min. before the feeder went off. I was after hogs or a Javi to mount. Well these ducks would hit and clean the corn and a few min. later this herd of Javis comes through, sees no corn and moves on, never giving me a shot.

Back at camp, I'm ****** and thinking of using a Judo point on the ducks. Guys at camp tell me to just throw rocks. DO NOT DO IT!

You are not throwing rocks, you are throwing scent bombs! Scent from your hands gets on the rock and you toss it into your feeder. 2 rocks. I got busted bad over it.

What have you learned the hard way?

Not to drive down a dirt road with a last minute girlfriend and lock my keys in the truck. I had to call a buddy to come pick me up and never lived it down during the rest of my college years.

Don't practice on the ground and expect to hit anything from 20 ft. up in a tree. Bend at the waist and don't drop your bow arm. When I first started bowhunting I mad every rookie mistake possible. If you're going to hunt from a treestand, practice from a tree stand or crawl up on the roof.

And never ever look an old buck in the eye. He'll sense it every time when it's up close and personal.

Sling shot is the answer to pests at the feeder. I wouldn't shoot to kill if it were a migratory game bird though.

As far as learning stuff the hard way, be really careful zipping your fly when you are going commando.
