If you don't like the fixed width forum style....

Go down to the bottom of the page, in the left corner and select "Wide" in the drop-down. This will allow you to customize your view of the forum.

I tried it but don't really see a difference. It seems on the fixed I get the bar below that lets me scroll left and right and on wide I don't have that.

You're on a lower resolution and/or you have your zoom set high on your browser. Fixed is set to display the forum a 935 pixels...which matches the header images nicely. On wide, you probably have a wider forum than those images.
