I have rockeys that I paid about $150 for. My brother-in-law got the zipper ones from Bass Pro for $99. I want his....LOL

Both are water proof, and are as comferatable as tennis shoes even in hot weather.

        Jeffe,
Are these the Rocky's you are referring to http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=334747

Unfortunately money IS an object right now, so I need to decent boots that will last a while.

I have the BPS Red Head Zip-ups. They are easy to put on and comfortable. I had my lace ups for three years and never got them broke in.

I would not give up my chipewas for anything. I wear them no matter what time of the year it is, they are that comfortable on me. mine aren't gore-tex but and if I have to do it all over I would spend the extra money on the gore-tex. Danner was my second choice though.

I 2nd what Tink said. I had a pair and wore them smooth out - fit and felt great from day one. Replaced them with a pair of Rockys and I hate them to death! Most uncomfortable boot I've ever worn and they were more expensive than the Red Heads!

I have Rocky lace-ups. If I had to put them on and take them off several times a day the laces would be a pain in the neck, but once in the morning and off at the end and they're OK.

I paid around $100 from Cabelas I think from a sale catalog.

One thing I'd suggest is make sure they'll fit over your pants, not only inside your pants. The lace-ups allow me to wear them outside, which is good because I hunt near streams and they keep me dry since my pants are tucked inside.

I wouldn't want to elk hunt and hike 10 miles up and down mountains in them (I have Danner Pronghorns for that).

Chadc I go to college so I'm in the same boat as you but if you spend the extra money you'll get more in the long run. my Danner's with tax were $199 and last me going four years, so basically $50 a year and goin. my chipewas before cost $150 and only got one year out of them. Jerp outdoor country doesn't make sankeguardz it's a guy out of OK that makes them. They look promising but like the waterproof/snakeproof on a boot. I tried them on (thinking they would be lighter to wear during deer captures) and they are not much different from the old plastic ones academy sold. Just a better update of the design.

Chad I tried the Danners on in the store and the Rocky's and what sold me on the rockys was they make them in a extra wide which is what I need since I have Freddy Flinstone feet the Danners where just to tight, and yes that looks like the ones I got except the toes are canvas not leather. I wore mine for four days straight at the Texas shoot-out with out any probs. My buddy has the lace up style and has had nothing but probs. he ended up buying the redheads and is much happier.

So general consensus is the Red Heads. Although the Danners are nice but just way out of my budget right now. My main concern is having the protection if I need it. I'm not much of a spot and stalk guy when it's warm out so hopefully that won't be an issue, although things always change in the field. Thanks again for all the input and keep it coming.

The Redhead brand is junk, I dont care what type of clothing it is. There warranty dept. is useless. That being said, I have a pair I bought off of ebay for $50. Looked like someone bought them for one trip hunting and then sold them. They took a few trips to break in, they are hard to take off, and the waterproof only lasted about 2 years. I would wear them in the early season and to work at the lease. I prefer wearing Lacrosse burlys but we have big canebreak rattlers, copperheads, and cotton mouths on our lease and those rubber boots just make me nervous while it is warm.

I got a pair of Cabela's Pinnacle snakeproof zip-ups last year, they are Scent-Lock and Gore Tex lined, non-insulated so I could wear them in warm weather. Cost $139 and on a 1-10 comfort scale I'd give 'em a solid 7, not quite as comfortable as the LaCrosse Alpha Burley rubber boots I have, but good enough to wear all the time in warm snakey weather.

Go to academy, look in the boots section. they have there lace up camo Snake boots on sale. They are listed at $79 with 50% off that price. Cant beat the price. It is a very comfortable boot as well. I have Chipawas and this are just as nice.
