What brand of snake boots do you prefer and what is a fai rpince to pay for some. I am hunting in S TX next month and with all the talk of snakes, I think I need to take some precautions for my personal safety.
Danner snake boots $179-$199 in price. All of them have gore-tex to keep you waterproof, and they break in alot faster and easier then those D@^* Chipewas. I got a pair in the utility room that are three deer seasons old that I wore when guiding and probaly got another season or two left in them. I've had Chipewa (biggest waste of money IMO) Justin's (good until they get wet, then they never come off your feet) and I'll take Danners anyday. They are the most comfortable snake boot I've ever worn.
I have had a few pair of Snake Boots and they all have bad points. Most are a pain in the rear to get on and off and the lace ups have so many laces that they loosen up and get caught on everything. Chippewa (sp) makes one that has a zipper and it is great but have heard the zipper get worn out. They are all very hot and heavy but worth wearing. Good Luck and do yourself a favor and go get a pair.
I just looked and Danner makes a zip up buckled snake boot - Sharptail Covey- I may just buy a pair of these for my next- Ive worn Danners at work adn cant get a better made boot unless you goto a custom bootmaker
Yea GLen I just saw those zip ups and the looked sharp, my next pair maybe the pull on sharptails (I got the pronghorns) but the pronghorns and Jackal are camo and they have loops not hooks all the way up.
Bass Pro has their Red Head brands on sale now. I have the zipper type that make for easy on and off, plus they are very comfortable. BTW, in south Texas I think I would still wear chaps also. A big snake can strike above those boots.
i to have the red head boots from bass pro they zip up the side and are by far the best boots i have ever had.... they are made by danner and have gortec... right now on sale at bass pro for 89.00
I got a pair from Gander Mtn. that zip up the side for $139. I'm pretty sure they are made by Irish Setter. They are comfortable and don't take forever to put on by lacing all those hooks.
My wife and I both have the BP Redhead zip-ups and for snake boots they are the most comfortable I've worn and are more comfortable than most other hunting boots as well. And you can't beat that price.
Alot of people do not like the rocky boots but I have the slip on style and love them. They only took one outing to break in and have never let me down.
Anybody try these? http://www.snakeguardz.com/ They are Cordura and lightweight and I think would be cooler and more comfortable than 18" tall boots. The company is out of Bishop, Tx
I agree with JavelinaRuss. I also have a pair of Danner snake boots & a pair or Rocky snake boots, The Danner boots are so much more comfortable than the Rockys, The big plus is that the Danner snake boots are also 18 inches tall, Most other snake boots are 16 inches. I know it isn't much But I think every inch counts when it could be the difference of a great hunting weekend or a trip to the ER.
