That was my first question............. I am still not convinced there was anyone else in that category with him!

              Well guys.....

To put all your hearts at ease, there were 6 people in the trad division. Dena Kana, Bobby Kana, Derrick (did not get a last name), Lowell (did not get a last name), and one other gentle man that I forgot his name all together.

The qualifing rounds were all day Saturday and the morning of Sun. I shot on Saturday about 3:00 pm. I had been running back and forth between the LSBA kids booth and the pop-up booth. Between helping Jerry pull and score arrows at the pop-up, and helping th kids shoot at LSBA's booth come 3:00 Saturday, I was almost plumb wore out.

Jerry had the course set up for the compound shooters, with the closest targets at 20 yds and the farthest at roughly 35. I have never shot my longbow out that far, so I knew it would be interesting. Dena and I shot a practice round early, just to get things started and I hit 4 out of 7. The second practice round, I got in my groove and hit all the targets. Then it was off to work the booths all day.

Jerry does a center 12 with the ASA 14. For my qualifing rounds I shot a 36 and a 36 for a total of 72. This was enough to get me in first for qualifing and a by for the first round of the finals.

I think I shot a 70 for the first round of finals to advance. Bobby beat Dena by two points so Bobby and I shot for the finals.

The finals started off rough for me. I got a five on the running deer, and then the bear came up. When I released, I knew it was high. I told myself to calm down and just shot. This is what I needed. I got an 8 on the final back target and then just CAME ALIVE!!!!

The final 4 targets I drilled 12s on. We got done, and Bobby looked at me and said "Where did you come from????" Sometimes I even surprise myself.

All in all, I did really well for shooting at the distances I was, and never having shot them. I got "my eye" fairly quickly and was atleast hitting foam with one round.

LSBA is having a 3D Pop-Up shoot on the 23rd at BPS in Katy, so come on out and shoot with us!!

I think it was the snake skins that allowed him to shoot that well!!!!!!!!

Yep - the arrow leaves the bow faster cause it's skeered by them skins!!!

Congrats again, Brandon! You shot really well! He just totally drilled the last several targets.

The course was definitely not trad friendly! I'm not sure how many inserts I lost on the back targets, but I'm glad Brandon salvaged one of them and glued it back into my arrow for the finals. I'm usually not nervous when I shoot trad, but that had me rattled.

I watched Lowell and Robert shoot first and thought I had calmed down a bit, but noooo. Bobby and I shot against each other and he came out two ahead of me. Then Brandon shot against Robert and warmed up a bit, so he was ready to take on Bobby.

Like Brandon said, after the miss on the bear..He was all bidness!! Congrats on a great shoot, Brandon!

Bobby received 2nd and I came in 3rd. I still have a long way to go! All three of us were worn out by the end of the show from running from booth to booth, pulling arrows and the stooping and squatting that goes along with helping the lil' ones. We were lucky to have some good help at the Youth Archery Range.

As Brandon said, LSBA will be hosting another Pop-up 3-D shoot at BPS on August 23rd. We will also be helping Bowmasters of Arkansas out at the Pop-up 3-D shoot at the Ft. Worth TTHA show on the 14th, 15th and 16th. It will be structured differently than the San Antonio and Houston shows, but should be lots of fun! Come on out and shoot!!!
