Un-twisted limbs?

Is it possible for a twisted limb to straighten itself out. I know, probably not, right?

I just got down a recurve that I figured out had a twisted limb a few months ago after the string jumped off during a shot.

I restrung it for the heck of it and it looked ok. I shot it a dozen times or so and seems to be doing fine.

I've already got its replacement but do you think it would be safe to shoot as a back up or bowfishing bow?

I've seen a couple of bows do that through the years. It probably straightened itself out fairly quickly. I wouldn't be worried about shooting it a bit. One of the best bows I ever owned had a slightly twisted limb and always shot great. I sold it because someone offered me more than I thought it was worth. That guy still shoots it today, twisted limb and all.

Thanks Draco! I've been thinking about how this might have happened 4 months into my owning a 40 year old bow.

Well I had a new string that I had just twisted it several additional times messing with the brace height. I'm thinking that may have put additional strain on the already slightly twisted lmb.

Leaving it strung for a while may work - if not Call Bob Sarells he has a method he uses.

Try a hair dryer and gently persue it the other way.

The hair dryer trick has worked for me as well (about 50% of the time) on limbs that are permanently twisted. I have taken the twist out under heat, then quickly stuck the limb in ice water. I've never owned a bow that corrected itself. My most recent attempt to straighten a permanent twist turned out perfect... until the next time I strung the bow, and the twist came right back. I repeated the process and hung it on the wall as a display. Scared to string it again. Good luck with your project!

I had a gentleman to GIVE me a Black Widow that was made by the Wilson Brothers. It came with no string and when I strung it the top limb had a little twist to it. I simply eased the limb over until the string was lined up with string groove and left it strung a few days, it straightened itself out and shoots wonderfully!!!
