    A silly question...

I am thinking of attaching a piece of PVC pipe to my ATV for carrying my longbow when hunting. Does it do any harm to a bow to string it, then unstring it, then string it back for each trip? In other words, does it hurt a bow to be strung and unstrung numerous times over it's life?

There are no silly questions.... Just silly folks asking questions.

It will not hurt your longbow to string and unstring it

I would look at some way to add padding so not to damage the finish on your bow.....maybe cutting the PVC down the middle to cradle it and some tie down straps to hold it in place...?

I was thinking a bow sock would be enough. Do you think I need something more?

Leave it to Marty to come up with a witty reply. And his answer is correct also.

Wont hurt bow to unstring and string it but I would always use a bow stringer most limbs get twisted by stringing bow without a bow stringer.

I have a case that my wife got me that is just a fancy PVC tube. It is covered with fabric and has padding on the inside. The most padded part is the ends and it has thick fleece ends. I transport my longbow with it on my ATV. I just run the tube from the back rack to the front.

I use PVC for my longbow everytime I travel a significant distance. Actually, its best to let it down in transport as a taught string is more likely to be cut by a rough edge than a loose one.

I think the PVC is a good idea. I would also recommed a bow sock. Use a string keeper so you won't have to fight with your brace height as much (if any).
