    tradgear + pop-ups

Well i have a ? for you seasoned specialist!!

have any of you hunted with your longbow or recurve out of a pop up and if you were able to successfully...

what was your setup? like blind and specs on bow

was it easy or atleast managable in the blind

is there a better setup you would suggest from the ground with trad gear

any insight would be appreciated, i am going on the lsba pig/turkey hunt and was thinking of bringing my pop ups but dont know if i will be able to shoot my bows out of it

    i have a recurve at 62" and a longbow at 64"

    thanks
    John

I just bought a ameristep dominator. I had it set up in my living room today, and I would think you would have more than enough room. cost 209 after s$h.

I never got to shoot but I did hunt out of a Matrix a few weeks ago. I practice drew several times and there was room to shoot my 64" longbow. It was my guide's blind, and he hunts exclusively with traditional equipment and nothing short of 62". He has killed ALOT of animals out of his Matrix blinds. We even sat in there together one morning and there was room for either of us to take a shot but all the shot lanes were out the front of the blind.

What ever you do, take several practice shots from the blind you use. Otherwise, you'll be worried about this question, when you shoot. I have to cant my 62" bows, but have a 58" that works real well in these blinds.
            Good luck.

If you decide to shoot out of a pop-up, practice before going afield. For some reason (for me), depth perception is affected with the pop-up and I tend to shoot a bit high when shooting out of a pop-up, even at a stationary target.

              Good luck.

That is kinda funny...I have had some problems shooting out of popups but I tend to shoot low. I missed a buck two years ago and a turkey last year, both low. They definately seem to affect my depth perception and I agree with Laguna and Splitfinger in that I would practice out of one before hunting it. Good luck John.

I don't know how many animals I have killed from pop-ups....but it is dozens. For me, I need a blind that is 6 ft tall at the highest point. I have bought and sold 3 that were just too short for me to use comfortably. I have a Lucky's Tent that I had specially made at that height, and now one of those Ground Max ones. I have hunted out of Double Bulls as well, but the regular model is close to being to short, I recomment the recurve model to someone in the market and will to spend the money.

You do need to set your blind up and practice out of it....the more the better. It is different and takes some getting use to. It can effect your instinctive shooting.

I will be taking a ground blind and a short tripod on the LSBA hunt myself.

The Double Bull Recurve model has planty of room for traditional bows. I have one and rally like it. And like whats said before, it does make everything look different when shooting out of one. Takes a little getting used to.

                        I like Buff's Matrix's. I had plenty room with my 64" bow. I'm 5' 11 3/4" tall also if that means anything to you with a 29 1/4" draw.

The Matrix I was hunting out of WAS the recurve model just FYI. Seems like someone a while back also said the made one work by digging out the bottom a bit to allow more clearance but that may have been one of Deerhunter30's homemade ground blinds. Where has he been lately speaking of???

I'm with Chunky on this one. I have a Lucky's "Texas Special" that I can easily shoot all of my LB's out of. I also have some Ameristep Brick Houses. Out of the brick houses 62" is the longest I can go, with some manuvering. Not as much room in them as I would like. My 58" and 52" recurves work well in the Brick Houses.
