I have been cutting the padding I am using for the loops out before I serve my center serving. I really like what 18 strands of 452x and .19halo does for me, and my nock fit. If I went to I believe .30Halo about how much of the padding(8strands of 452x) could I eliminate,

Do I need padding in my loops if I am using 18 strands of 452x?

I have been, just because of the extreme low stretch of 452x and I cant afford a new bow, because I experimented with a $20 string

I think you would need to pad to 12 to get the same nock fit.

      No.
Actually 14 strands is plenty. As long as the loops size is filling the groves fairly well, you are good to go. To big can create problems as well as to small.

Thats good to know, That will eliminate lots of unnecceasary trouble in the future. This whole string making is tricky. If you goof, you wont know until its too late!

On 452x I put 8 extra strands in making it 16 strand in the loops.

On 452X I add 8 strands extra in the loops. This adds up to 16 strands of 452x in the nock/loop. I use .025 Halo and add 6-8 strands under my serving. I have not gone to 12 strand Astrolight and love it... extra quiet and feels better under my fingers.

Im guessing this is for a 10 strand string? I have looked at the astroflight, but I have way too much 452x to start something else.

I use a 14 strand D97 string. It is just what I have been using for a looooong time. I did try a skinny string once but then had to go and retune my arrows to make it all work. I did not want to mess with what I had so I just went back to my 14 strand D97 string and that is where I stayed.

Do most of you use three lays or two? I have always used three lays. I am still using Fast Flight right now and do three 5 strand lays.

I am about out of Fast Flight and bought a couple of spools of 825, but I have never used any of it yet.

                      Wayne,

I normally do 3 ply strings, but mainly just for looks.

The 3 ply is supposed to be more round than the 2 ply, but I've never been able to tell the difference. A well made 2 ply is gonna be plenty round.

                      They shoot the same.

8125 is a good FF material.

Just out of curiosity - when you retuned your arrows, which way did you have to go with them, and by how much?

I don't remember anything except my arrows were off and I did not want to mess up a good thing. I have read that by going to a skinny string it is supposed to make your bow act likr it was several pounds heavier so I assume that my arrows were acting weak after the change.

Yep. My experience also. I have to shoot much stiffer shafts with an 8 strand string as apposed to a 14 strand.
