Barely Missed and Paid The Price

Using this bow for squirrel hunting could get expensive.

Missed the squirrel just a tad low, and buried the arrow half way down the outsert into that 2.5" diameter tree limb.

It has a VPA SGT on it.

I have no idea how to retrieve it.

Find some fireman buddies to do a church or steeple raise for you.
Or rent a cherry picker. Lol
I think that arrow is a part of nature now.

Keep shooting arrows at that same spot til you split the limb and free the arrow...it may take several so don't give up. Surely that limb will eventually give up that arrow. [emoji33]

            Gotter down.

Piece of chain tied on the end of a 1/4" rope.

Once I got the arrow lassoed, I started yanking at different angles to the arrow. Took some doing, but it finally worked it loose.

It was buried in the limb to about where you see the red line behind the VPA SGT.

Thankfully, the hole didn't close up much behind it.

175 grain VPA SGT, sunk into a hard rubber equipment footing.

JB-Weld backed, and stuck in place

              Finished weight - 240 grains.

This should still give the tree rats a good thump, and still a little chewage,
but bounce the points back enough to keep them from sticking in the tree.

JB-Weld wouldn't stick to the rubber, so I rebuilt them a different way.

175 grain VPA SGT, sunk into a hard rubber equipment footing.
Backed with hard rubber cups filled with JB-Water-Weld, and stuck in place.

                Finished weight - 287 grains.

Yes, I painted the seam orange.

These stuck together real good, and are **** tough.
I shot both of them against a big oak tree 3 or 4 times, and nary a wrinkle.

Screw all that, shoot the limb down with a shotgun.

I've always thought about putting an arrow high up into a dead tree at the end of every season, a territorial marking 😂
