I have been hunting out of ground blinds more this year, and have had no problem shooting out of them. But not to rob the original question but I have another question. My last several sits I had deer come in with the right wind directly in my face and every deer acted like they smelled me. I decided to close my shooting window a little more thinking scent was going back out of the front of the blind possibly. An 8 point came in and I shot him. Did that solve the problem? What is y’all’s thoughts? Has anyone else that had hunted out of blinds had the same experience?

I only have 1 window open when I’m hunting out of a pop up. Helps greatly with swirling winds

IMO it's better to learn and expand your capabilities then to throw up your hands in frustration and admit defeat.

Playing devils advocate, if I practice and get good st shooting out of a pop up, when I’m not in a pop up will that throw my instinctively abilities off?

I much prefer hunting out of a tripod anyway, feels more like I’m in the hunt as opposed to being in a blind, which is dang effective but not what I prefer.

I doubt I’ll go bowhunt Africa, sitting over a waterhole to me, was limiting the experience of such an awesome place.

It does not throw mine off, and I am like you I prefer hunting out of a tree stand or tripod.

To the folks that do not have any issues, by chance did any of y’all have LASIK or any other corrective surgery done?

You've proven over time you're willing to do the work and can overcome the obstacles. I just don't see why you wouldn't figure this out too.

I had RK before lasik was. However I now wear mult-focal contact lenses because apparently age is a mitigating factor. However I've always had above average peripheral vision, spacial acuity and the RKndid one negative for me as it made my night vision less focused.

I doubt its an eye issue for you. Just gotta practice it and you'll learn!

I know, I need to. May throw up a practice pop up at the ranch to take some shots out of, I don’t think I can swing putting one up in the backyard!

I’ve shot a lot of animals out of a ground blind with the mesh on. No problems here, in fact, I won’t hunt a ground blind unless it has mesh on it, helps so much being eye level 10 yds from critters. I do practice it though, shoot broadheads through the mesh at my 3D deer to prep.

For me I don’t have a depth perception problem, instead it’s an issue with shooting level from a seated position. I always shoot high when sitting and have to train myself to aim a little lower. I can’t tell you exactly why but that’s been my experience.

Shooting thru mesh really messes with my depth perception. I’ve sat in blinds while hunting and would have been way off on yardage had I not first practiced from that stand. And since that isn’t always possible, I avoid mesh when I can. I start practicing while sitting down well before season, both with the compound and trad bows, and this year my son made a platform for us to shoot from at home. The angles and seating I’m ok with, but mesh? It throws me way off. I guess I need to work on that now.

I have problems using a range finder out of a pop-up. It doesn't shoot ranges which makes it harder to judge distance.

If you get the right rangefinder, it works fine. I used to have an Archers Choice rangefinder, and it would not read thru mesh. Now I have a Sig Kilo rangefinder, and it works great thru mesh. I found out this week, it even works great thru a closed glass window!!!!!!
