    Woodie Weight Add On

I needed to add weight to some woodies to weaken the spine.

I ordered some screw on adapters, 50 grains, but they will not get here soon enough.

I woke up from a dead sleep and came up with this.

I weighed out 100 grains of copper wire.

Will have to wait until morning to test.

Kudos on the ingenuity. Wonder if it will impede penetration?

Maybe. Right now I just want to see if adding weight weakens the spine.

You can also foot it with a piece of aluminum arrow shaft with an insert, and accomplish the same thing.

Back when I shot woods, I did that a lot. Not so much for dynamic spine adjustment (although it does do that), but to strengthen the business end, and to allow for screw in points.

          Worked very well.

I approve of this idea. I may have to steal it.

I do the same thing if I break the end of an arrow I add it back with an aluminum arrow end. Works really well.

You should already know that adding weight to the point end will weaken the spine!!!!!!!!

Now, if it weakens it enough to make the arrow tune correctly for you, that is the question that needs to be answered!!!!!!

Footing with an aluminum shaft works well. A few passes with 220 sandpaper until it "shoots" right works too. finish with some water-based poly.

I used the sandpaper method when I made my own wood shafts - even from the same piece of wood the spines of a batch of shafts would be all over the place.

You can soak the front 6" of the shaft in Watco Oil and add 50 grains to the front. The Watco Oil will soak completely through the shaft. Adds weight and makes it much stronger as well.
