A simple bow-tip protector for longbow or recurve...

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the words "Traditional" and "Leather" somehow just go together. Here's a simple project that will protect the bottom limb of you bow from scratching or chipping....

First, I trace the outline of my limb-tip....

Next, I fold the pattern to include a bottom side, and cut it out...

With an exacto knife, I cut out a hole for the string...

Next I find a piece of scrap 4-5 oz. tanned leather and cut out the pattern...

Mark the stitching holes and punch them with a leather awl...

    Then I dye the leather...

Stitch it up. Here I'm using artificial sinew...

Once stitched up, soak it in hot water for a few moments, and slide it on your bow tip to dry. Once dry, it's ready to protect your bow tip forever.

that is real nice.......mine is similar but would not get tight when it dried so a well placed spot of hot melt glue did the trick.

                          Tom,
You have really peaked my intrest on this project, I see the handle of the tool you used to make the stiching marks but what does it exactly look like on the end ? Also what size and type needle do you prefer. Thank You in advance for your help.

                            Hoof:

Stitching wheels come in a variety of sizes, and there are some available with interchangable wheels (Tandy). I have a couple of older ones that I have gotten over the years. These are the ones I have. As for the size of the needle, I'm not sure, but have laid my needle next to a dime in the photo and hope that it helps you out. Let me know if I can do anything else.

Tom thanks that should get me started, if I run into more questions I'll get back with you. From top to bottom which one did you use for this particular project..?
                              Thanks again,
