    Glove vs. Tab

Guys I shoot a glove now but I would love to shoot with a tab but I can't get the string to come off the same. How did you guys go from glove to tab? I shoot 3 under with my recurve and split with my longbow so I can shoot the Longbow Championship.

I have a hard time going back and forth. I just tried a glove again the other day and it threw me for a loop. I usually come back to the tab at some point, just like the release I get. Good luck.

I use a hair faced tab with a light deerskin damascus glove and this combo works better for me than anything Ive tried. I get a slick release from the tab but still get the good finger protection of the glove while shooting heavy bows. A tab alone just never has felt right to me. Im really surprised more archers havent tried this combo.

I have used the "neet" tab for years and get good results from it. I do sew the spacer between the fingers with thread to keep them from moving when it gets warm, but other than that I just use it as is.

all a matter of personal pref...but I can't shoot a glove very well, of course I don't shoot the tab much better but it seems more natural to me.

              Gene,

I haven't shot with a tab since I found out there WASsuch a thing as a glove when I bought my first real bow (not pre-packaged fiberglass) at 18 and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Of course that means I never shot with a real tab either (so my preference between the two is useless). I am glad to see that you are having identity issues not only about what kind of bow you want to shoot, but also what finger protection you want to shoot with. It gives me hope at Vanderpool.

I've been using a tab for over 40 years. Gives me a clean release.

I like the damascus glove. I don't like the ones made of deerskin though. The ones made of the real dark brown material are thinner and i get a better feel for the string. Someone told me a long time ago that the dark brown ones were made of goat skin but I don't know if if that is true. Just curious, why would you want to swap to a tab?

Dusty, where were yall yesterday, I shot Denton shot well with the recurve couldnt score with my longbow to save my neck. I may just stick with the recurve. See ya at Vanderpool.

I shoot a glove. I have tried to shoot a tab and can't seem to get a good grip on the string with it. Now with that said, I just started shooting tradional equipment about 3 months ago so I am no expert.

I AM NOT picking on any of you glove shooters !!

I started archery in 1959. From the beginning I was taught/coached in competitive NFAA field archery. When we were kids we were taught that gloves were for the beginning little kids and only serious competitive shooters shoot tabs. And that a Kant-Pinch spacer in your tab is a 'crutch'.

If you look at anyone who shoots NAA or FITA on the national or international level, they only shoot tabs - not one glove. But they're shooting 68"+ target bows that are always 50# or less.

these photos are from last years Beijing Olympics

these are some pix of my different anchors, depending on the bow

This is the Bateman tab I happen to be shooting now
I don't like the elastic so I take it off and use a piece of string
it is about as 'minimal' as you can get
but I get an incredibly 'clean' release

When I was still competing I had serious callouses on my index, middle & ring finger tips (like a guitar player)

Not enough days in the week. I've heard that "sticking with the recurve" before. What was your best score? No one has sent them to Martha for the web site yet.

Great shooting! You have definitely improved in the last year. Why do you want to start changing things rather than stay with what's obviously working?
