To cant or not to cant...

I've been shooting better than ever in recent weeks and at longer distances. The weird thing is that everything has just been real natural/easy feeling to my shooting lately. I really haven't even been focussing much on the "steps" of shooting, just doing it on autopilot.

So, I noticed today that somewhere along the way I have completely quit canting my longbow. It's at straight-up 6 & 12...like it had a level on it? I used to be Mr. Overcant and was working on reeling it back to 1:30 or so a few weeks back but as I said, before I realized this today I hadn't been thinking about form at all lately.

Of course, now that I have analyzed this...it will be the first phsycological-Jenga-block that leads to my next "off day".

    Ain't it fun!

So, do you cant your bow or not?

I do cant mine. But it is a subconscious thing. It's what feels right. Like everything else if you can do it the same every time it is OK. If you cannot, then it leads ro trouble.

With no thought what so ever I shoot mine way over on close shots and as the distance gets bigger my bow comes straighter until at 50 yards plus I look like Chris ( only prettier) with my bow straight up and down

Maybe it was the practice at longer ranges that has made me straighten up the bow lately?

Whatever it is, I just killed the Yellow Jacket (on my target) at 35-yards without my Hawglite on!...wish I'd gone hunting tonight...

Straight up for me, just feels better than canting the bow. I only cant if I'm on one knee, and it's a close shot.

Asbell in his book talks about canting more up close and less at farther distances.

I cant my bow between one and two o'clock depending on the "feel" of the range to my target.

I shoot longer shots, 25plus yards better without canting. Closer shots - typically shoot canted at about 1 and 7.
