    New Shelf Configuration

    My new shelf configuration.
I moved the hump back to the the grip pivot point.
It's basically all the same as before, but all with leather instead of velcro.

I spent a few hours with Frank Addington when was here in San Angelo. Looking over his bow, he had glued layers of saddle leather on to the shelf to build it up perhaps half an inch. No obvious bump in it that I recall, so the effect was that he just raised the shelf. I'm still a bit puzzled over that since he was shooting a formula bow and could easily have played with the tiller bolts to get the same effect.

So I'll ask you the question. What is gained by having a bump on the riser that is so high? Is it because the bow was tillered to work with an elevated rest and button? I have one or two bows that simply won't work shooting off the shelf, but they work o.k. with an elevated rest.

I can tiller the bow to work with any rest high/low I want, but I prefer shooting from a shelf.

The hump is simply to raise the arrow enough for better fletching clearance at pass, because I shoot vanes.

When shooting with feathers it isn't necessary, but even with them it's somewhat beneficial.

        Edit for an additional comment.

Some bow's shelves don't need much of a hump to shoot vanes.
Blackwidow for instance, has a narrow enough, and enough of a well radius shelf, that a mere 1/8 to 1/4 inch piece of dowel under it's shelf cover is plenty to allow you shoot vanes with good clearance.

Yes, it is considered as off the shelf by TBoT, and IBO.

Because, it is. Off the shelf that is.

I have had at least 2 dozen PM's, public comment, and emails about how my padd in my sight window is cheating. Lord Help us.

Never let it be said of me, that I am unwilling to step aside to allow someone their happiness if they think they deserve it.

In an effort to keep folks from swallowing their tongues over my "arrow pad", I used some leather dye, and blacked it out entirely. I couldn't see it anyway, but whatever.

If I shoot good enough to win somewhere, and someone protests this, I will gladly step aside, and allow them to have their trophy. Heck, I'll even buy them another trophy, so they can be doubly happy.
