Arrow Help

I recently bought a longbow off of ebay ... 55#. It is a joy to shoot, little shock, and fairly quiet. Been shootin @ 5yrds and had gotten fairly consistent. Today I moved it back to 10yrds & noticed my arrows were flying nock-down for about the last 5 yrds. Also a little fishtailin goin on.

I am currently shooting some Easton 2315 alums with Left Helical Feathers. I think my form & release is decent (not perfect by any means, but at least consistent.)

Should I get a stiffer spined arrow? Increase point wt?

I would think those are to stiff.

If your nock is down you need to lower your nock point a little. Fishtailing can be overspined. The ideal aluminum for you would either be 2016 or 2213's. You could increase the point weight to weaken the spine. Also dragging your finger upon release will result in fishtailing as well.

Alot of variables to condsider but I agree......overspined. If you are using the easton arrow chart becareful, I have found the recommeded arrow for recurves to be way overspined.

I think I may try adding point wt 1st ... the bow came with some Jerry Hill cedar arrows, & I have some alums from my 1st recurve.

As to finger drag, I caught myself doin that quite a bit yesterday so hopefully that is my problem & I can correct it!

I dont know what I'm doing but you are welcome to come over my house and shoot about 6 different arrows I played with trying to get mine to fly straight. I also have points from 75 grain to 250. If you think your arrows are fishtailing now wait until you see me shoot.

If those suggestions don't fix the problem, you may look to see if the nock is excessively tight on the string. I'll bet though that you are over spined, especially if the bow is not center shot, which I would doubt since it is a longbow.

I use 2315 out of my 67# recurve with 160 grain tips or heads. As mentioned 2016/2018 would probably work much better.
