    getting there

Doug and Billy bought me a dozen arrows for my birthday {these were high dollar arrows !!!} and i wanted to tune them to a heavier broadhead. i wanted to try the Magnus 1 broadhead that Paul Vrana told me about {1.5 inch cut}. I ordered the heads {135 grain} and 75 grain steel inserts. I knew i was underspined, so i began cutting down the arrows in 1/2 inch increments. I settled on 28 3/4 inches as having the best flight and still be able to shoot a broadhead without cutting my hand or the bow. I also raised my nocking point a tad {i assume my string has stretched a little since it was new}. The arrow flight looks good at 16 yards {my safest shot in my backyard}. I shot about 60 shots tonight with 2 arrows and many times i had 2 bullseyes at 16 yards. Tomorrow I will probably go back to my normal self, but if this set up continues to perform, i will have to leave my compound at home for my bear hunt.

Keep it up Woody. Seems like you are doin everything right. Practice, practice practice. One thing I might mention, I never take out more than 3 arrows to practice with at a time. 1 would be better but all that walkin makes my knees hurt. A fellow (you might have heard of him, he won longbow world 11 times in a row) named Kieth Baines made that suggestion to me so I took it to heart. That gives you a little rest between flights. More than that is exercise and not practice. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm with you on that Bob, never more than three. And take your time on those.

I take one arrow out to practice with and the most important practice shot of the day is the very first arrow I shoot.
