Finally saw some good deer this weekend in Christoval! Had 5 nice bucks on me this morning and had let ALL of them walk for MGT purposes. THOUGHT the EHD had done us a number but I guess not..had a 9 pt at I figger 4.5 yr old and 4 ..8 pts that need to be pro9teined cause theyre 2.5 3.5 and room to grow! 9 pt would go a bout 135..140 Im a thinkin'

I'm in Deeeeeep East Texas and have only spotted one small buck on opening weekend and no does at all. This is really wearing on me as I know there are plenty of deer here and have pics of several 130 class 8 pointers (all at night). They seem to lay low until the rut and this is just around the corner. Hopefully one will make a fatal mistake this weekend. -
I have hunted about eight times and have seen one deer just before light one morning and two groups of does, 7 in one group and three in another. This weekend I noticed an area that last year held a number of deer not far from my one feeder. I wouldn't see them last year until they jumped the fence to come to my feeder. Last year there was a bunch of high weeds for cover between the brush for them but this year it is missing, thanks to the drought, so only the brush exists. My thoughts are that the deer that I haven't been seeing is due to them moving to thicker cedar/mesquite areas for cover to bed in and areas to hold at. And....this has changed their patterns.Comment

Have deer hunted only once...I've been giving the doves heck, instead. Saw young bucks and doe/fawns. Still a little early, but this cool weather sure fired me up. May head down Tuesday for a couple of days.
