    Old Range Finder

Saw it in Canton this weekend. Very well made out of wood.

The seller had it grouped with an old Ben Pearson bow and about 1 1/2 doz old footed barred turkey Ben Pearson arrows.

I could not get him to sell me the arrows or Range Finder separately

Unique find. Amazing how much we have complicated things today.

        Nice!!!

You have more will power than I do. I'd own a new Pearson set-up, lol.

From what I am understanding about this tool, it isn't really a range finder.

Instead, it is a tool to show you what your point of aim (point on of arrow tip)
          should be at predetermined ranges.

In other words, it shows you your gap for whatever distance
          you happen to be shooting.

If that is the case, would it not have to be special made for each person? Gaps are very dependent on anchor point.

Back in the 90s I saw guys with marked dowels for ranging 3D animals. Some even marked their bows.

Yes. That is why it has the spiraled marking, so the shooter can turn it to the spot, and place a mark where the exact point on for that distance is.
The tool isn't an exact for everyone, but is adjustable with markings, or at least that's what I am seeing with it.

It was kinda neat. There is not much out there I have not seen and I wanted it.

I saw a Bear Polar 2 LTD for $45. I had one when they were brand new. It had an old Bear Quiver but the guy would not sell the quiver seperately.

                    Great find for sure.

My speculation about the tool is only from what I read, and how it looks. I would love to see the function of it demonstrated by someone who knows for sure how to use it.

                      I found this.

It is indeed simply a tool to help you set your gap for predetermined/known distances.
I thought the holes in the bottom were to put it on the arrow tip, so so they are.

                      Pretty cool little thingy.

Dang, that looks like a lot of trouble. I think I will just stick with my Archer's Choice rangefinder with angle compensation, and aim however my brain tells me to.

Seriously, it is a cool gadget though!

Those old NFAA & FITA guys were some serious shooters.
Most of their point ons were pretty far out there.
Looks like this fig is showing close to a 60 yard point on.

Notice how low it says to hold for 40 Yards.
