For years I've shot 50-60# bows, I tore my rotator cuff 10 years ago during a high school baseball game also hyperextended my left elbow 7 years ago during rec league flag football
And both of those In which I rushed thru rehab now have bit me in the *** and now I sold all my 50+ bows and bow using my recurves in the low 40's
And since then I've been shooting 300 rounds consistently in the 270s and my body feels much fresher even when I shoot 30-60 arrows per practice session

I workout 6 days a week, you can get strong as all you want, but nothing builds bow strength better than shooting your bow and band work
It's your decision to make the call, but remember you can have a deadly setup in the low to mid 40's especially with an efficient modern recurve
My trad tech titan ilf riser with 44# hex 7 limbs is faster than most customs @ 50# at the same arrow weight
All that matters is shot placement, shootabilty and being able to enjoy it without straining yourself
I've been stubborn about it for the past 2 years but I finally broke down and listen to my neck and shoulders
Again I workout 5-6 days week, strength train, run 10-15 miles week and do all the necessary routines to keep your body in check but everyone's body is different, everyone's joints and muscles are different, you have to do what's best for you and not worry any noise from the outside

Different weights for target and hunting used to be the norm many years ago. It takes a lot of work to get both bows shooting the same speed but isn't too bad. At 67, I'm still shooting 63#. My spare bow is 56#. I can pick up either and shoot the same but they do shoot different arrows.

It seems to me that it is normal now a days that people want to draw and hold when shooting stick bows. I tend to do my aiming while drawing and shoot almost the instant I hit my anchor. If I held at draw as long as others that I see shoot then I would have to shoot much lighter weight. Do you hold a long time when shooting?

I try to hold for about 2 seconds when the target panic monster isn't attacking

I over bowed in the beginning. Results bad form that I have not yet gotten corrected, bought more bows that could handle , went down to 47@26 which gets the job done on Africa plains game and white tail deer. Still can't shoot 3 d good but that's not because of bow being to light. Arvin

I watch/ed Jeff Kavanagh on his youtube. I thought it was interesting when he said/recommended shooting a lower poundage bow for form practice because it magnifies your deficiences and the the higher poundage bows will mask improper/inconsistent form.

A long time ago I shot a 65# recurve in a 2 or 3 day (all day) tournament at Ft. Hood and it didn't phase me (even placed third).
About 11 years ago I had a neck fusion that didn't really go that well. I was shooting 50-55# then. I ended up selling all of my bows and going lower weight. I took several years but after I finally started lifting some medium weights again the problems went away.
By then I was shooting in the 42-46# range, AND I WAS SHOOTING MUCH BETTER THAN I HAD EVER SHOT BEFORE. Your mileage may vary, but if you want to stay with your current draw weights I would suggest a weight lifting program, but work up slowly and stay away from the real heavy weights.
I am happy to stay in the low to medium 40# range on bows and see no reason to go heavier.
Now, in the last 9 months I have started practicing the Howard Hill shooting method and really enjoy it. I shoot blunts into a 3 layer canvas tarp backstop and shoot about a dozen arrows one after the other, and don't seem to get tired. I wouldn't recommend the method for close range whitetail hunting, but I am quickly going towards small game hunting rather than deer anyway.
The objective is making the arrow hit where you want, not how much straining it takes the draw the bow.
              2 cents please.

I think I will swap off my Dwyer original 49@28 and get a bow around 45@30. With my long draw I'll still be shooting a fast arrow and will have dropped about 12# of weight. I'll hang on to my Sierra that pulls 52@30 and see how it goes. I ordered some of that supplement and I already work out so we will see how it turns out

Ive been hunting with a longbow for 15+ years(also hunt compound). I release as soon as I anchor. I shoot pretty good. I use a relatively low weight. 45/27. I rather be consistent with a lower weight than erratic at a heavier weight
