I'm about to break down and haul out the rifle.

Tree rats are my new nemesis. I just spent the last hour outside with the Grizzly stalking the darn things and I missed every time. I'd walk from the veggie patch back towards the chicken feeders and take shots at both areas. They would actually wait till I was at one area and focused on a single squirrel and then raid the other area in mass. So far I'm 0 for 11. As I walk back in the house I glance to my right and see great grandfathers Winchester model 69 in .22 that he bought new in 35 hanging on the wall and I'm sooooo tempted to load up the magazine and head back out.

This isn't over tree rats..... not by a long shot.

Jake (The Almost World Famous tracking dog) and I have been wearing them out. Started with a pellet gun, missed a lot , now using the 22.
    Good Luck!!!!!!

If we didn't live in town, and there wasn't a season...the squirrels here wouldn't even consider coming in my yard. Browning A5, 30'' barrel w/full choke. They can't go high enough to escape death.

I use either shorts or the "mini caps" and ensure there is something substantial behind my intended target. I'd love to use my H&R M48 .410 but that's a bit loud for the area even though the folks down the street have weekend shooting parties.

I feel your pain. My wife has some ornamental miniature orange trees in her garden and those chattering taunting tree rats love to steal all the fruit off of them and it ****** off my wife like nothing else can (well except maybe me). They have also ruined all the bird houses I have built for her. So, 2 years ago I started my own little private war on those vermin. Picking them off as they run from oak tree to oak tree, or hiding on the backside of the trunk and peeking out to see if I am still there. I have lost track of how many I have shot with my Winchester 9422 but I have been feeding the local buzzards pretty well. They just keep coming and coming and coming. I swear that George Soros has been bussing them in just like all the protestors. It is a never ending wave of tree rats at my place.

Someone here (might have been Bisch) said "There are golf pros at every driving range". Meaning of course that shooting at a target is much much easier than hitting an animal. Man is that right. After this weeks FSC challenge I thought I was getting better at this. Hehe. NOPE!

I totally laughed way too hard at that! Do you not eat them? Not judging just asking, they are tasty.

Not sure if I should just shoot it like this as my "squirrel shaft" or pull it apart and cut it. Dang rats.

I have thought about it. I ate lots of squirrel growing up but just not much lately. Usually it is pick one off and immediately start the lookout for the next one.
One rainy Saturday morning I picked off 4 within an hour just by cracking open the front door, poking the barrel out, leaning against the inside door jam, and letting the hammer fall. It did make it a little loud inside the house though

                      OUCH!

I'd still use it just for the principle of it. Dang tree rats!

I trimmed it right quick and reset it. It'll never work for a broadhead as the tip is just too close to my fingers but it's now a dedicated squirrel shaft. I've still got about 1/4" past the shelf so It'll work.

Not to worry here. My neighbors know about my little war and have wisely chosen the correct side.

Talked to a guy at Cowtown Bowmen a couple of weeks and was told he bought a new truck only to have the tree rats get under the hood and eat on the wiring. Cost him almost $800.00 for repairs. He was told the plastic wiring is made from soy, as in the food group.
