...and I was pleasantly surprised! I have laid off the recurve for a while and haven't even got around to tuning arrows for the longbow. I was shooting the wheels and just not getting into it so I pulled out the recurve. I fired an arrow or two at 20 yards (split finger) and realized it had been a LONG time since I had shot. I moved up and remembered the sticky thread on 3 under. I drew back, anchored the same middle finger in the corner of my mouth but was looking right down the shaft, and relaxed the shooting hand. HIT! Not perfect but a solid kill shot on ole bucky. That was not the amazing part. What followed was one of the best patterns I have shot with 5 arrows. Now granted I had moved up to about 10 yards but dang those arrows were stacked in there nice! I am pretty excited and ready to get back out and shoot more. I am getting real nice arrow flight and the release seems cleaner. This could be in my head. However, for reference, I shot a few with split fingers and the arrow fish-tailed every time. As a matter of fact, I had given up on shooting this recurve off the shelf because as much as I have tried to build up the shelf, I just wasn't getting good flight. I had resigned to go back to a flipper on this particular bow, which is what it originally came with (a early 80's Black Bear Hunter by Bear Archery). Just goes to show it might not have been that shelf but my release that was more the problem. Anyway, I do miss shooting split finger since that is what I have shot all my life. I didn't even shoot a release on compounds until I broke my index finger a while back. I have to fix a couple of arrows (ooops!) and I will be back at it tomorrow! If I can work up to groups like that at 20 yards or so, I will be loving life again!
