    New arrows

Bought some Easton Axis shafts and I'm fleching them. I had the inserts left unglued so I could align them all the same. These however don't have an end cap or swage and fit flush in. Is this right?Click image for larger version

    NO!!!!!

Those should be HIT (Hidden Insert Technology) inserts. You use the little green tool to push them in. The tool sets them at the correct depth inside the shaft. Then you use the little brown grinding stone on the end of the shaft to do broadhead aligning.

What kind of glue are you using?

      They didn't send a tool.

The inserts did not come in a bag with the epoxy, green insert tool, and grinding stone???? If not, you need to go to an archery shop and beg one off of them. It's the only way you are going to get the inserts installed correctly.

        Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A9E9G20yvI

I use Big Jim's Quick Stick hot melt glue. It is the only hot melt that is really reliable for carbon shafts. You can put in/take out inserts at ease with this glue. if you use the epoxy that comes with the HIT inserts, they are pretty much in there to stay!

If you are needing them soon then put a field point in the insert then carefully put glue on the insert and push in and make sure you wipe clean. These inserts are supposed to sit back in a 1/2 inch or so in the arrow shaft. Most places that sell these arrows will have them. If you would like I can measure the length of the tool and you could mark a small rod or even cuetip to that length for a temporary tool to know how far to push the inserts in.

I'm using hot glue that has worked well so far. I will watch the video at home. Learning curve. Thank you sir.

The problem with this is getting excess glue out of the shaft. The tool that comes with the inserts has rings around it that pull att he excess glue out when you remove it.

Also, if you use hot melt, have a cup of water next to you that you can dip the end of the arrow into to help cool it down faster after you install the insert. Too much heat is not good for carbon shafts.

I can wait. I will contact Kustom King and get it straight. I have some left helical prefleched arrows coming tomorrow from Daniel I can use with my new heads. I appreciate the help. Now the question is the Masai or the Samurai?

It would be hard to go wrong with either.

I like the shorter profile of the Masai. Think I will go that way first. This is what happens when you start reading and . . . What was that CRM95 said about expensive?

Yep! I "justified" buying the GK heads before going on my first hunt in Africa. My thinking was that for something as special as that, I needed the best there was........so I bought 18 of them at once!

They are nice but it would hurt me shooting pigs to lose or destroy them. However on once in a lifetime trips or for an elk or moose I'd consider them. They sold out though so I wonder if their quality will remain the same.

GK's are still just fine. The ones from ABS are not the same, and I've heard they are made in China, but don't know for sure. The change in ownership was a technical issue because it was against the law or rules for Markus to own it with his regular job.

Yikes!! I'd love to buy some....but I'd be sick over losing broad heads that cost that much!! I am going to 2 blade heads when my new bow gets here, just waiting to see what weight I need. Probably gonna be something of the Zwickey variety.

I lucked out and got some gk's on the classifieds on TG. Even luckier that I've shot 2 hogs and a deer with the same head and recovered it each time.
