Without footing, when your arrow hits a stump the head and insert can jam up into the shaft and cause it to split. First time I went stumping I ruined arrows on the first two shots. That was before I learned I should have used footed shafts. Do you guys use those metal collars like you can buy at Three Rivers? I have also heard some people use a short piece of aluminum arrow shaft - is there another way to foot a carbon arrow?
I use judo points. I shoot 150 grain heads so I had to use a 125 judo and 3 washers to get to 140 grains. I can't tell the difference between 140 and 150 when stumping
Jerp, all I ever use is short pieces (2" or less) of old aluminum shafts. 2117 fit the GT 35/55 woodgrain carbon shafts real snug. I've used 2216 aluminum as well, they're just not quite as snug. Another benefit, for example, is the 2216's are 12.0 grains per inch, so as a result, I also get 24 grains up front with a 2" piece. See if I have a close up pic. Good Huntin, and God Bless, Rusty
