I was going to buy an extra string for my bear Montana longbow. I think it is ff compatible and comes with a d97 string from the factory. I've never used or trusted ff strings on stick bows, because I always feared it might break my bow with a nock failure. What does everyone else use? I did notice that the d97 had zero stretch and no change to my brace measurement.

Personally, I like the FF or, I think what they now call FF+.
I tried 8125 and the strings are fine, I just found it so slippery, that it was hard to twist the strings consistently.
Now I have a stringmaker on my payroll (he don't get paid, he just makes me a string any time I ask). I actually hate twisting strings and making wood arrows.

I twist my own Dacron strings. Sure there are more materials out there that provide more performance, that would be totally safe to use, but I like the thick over made strings and have no real reason to change.
-The longbow I recently got from Jeff has a FF string on it, and I will continue to use that string until it is worn out. Then I will build one of my own.
It's not so much in the material or type of string as it is in the twist and the maker. Only slight speed differences in the material so it becomes more of a personal taste thing.

BCY X has become a customer favorite of ours. It takes the best attributes of all the FF materials and wraps it into one material. Brownell fury is another that works very well.
