This buck came in at 7am and bedded on the edge of the creek. He would get up and stretch then lay down again. Around 10am he got up again and that's when I saw he wasn't alone, He had a lady friend! About 11am a young 6pt comes from the other direction and beds up 25 yards from me. I was stuck until the big buck came closer or it was dark. Long day with only some peanut butter crackers and no water..... I was getting bored and was texting some friends when I hear a deer running towards me. It's his doe and he wasn't far behind but farther out. My Ace in the hole (young 6pt) jumped up and ran towards the doe and right under my stand. The big buck wasn't having any of that! He bristled up and snort wheezed! He then walked in to 10 yards and turned almost broad side but slightly quartering to me. His head was behind a tree so I drew my Palmer Longbow and settled into my anchor and held while focusing on a hair tight behind his shoulder. When the string dropped I heard the arrow hit with a loud crack and saw my arrow right where I was looking. He ran out about 20 yards and got wobbly! He then ran like his tail was on fire.
I sat back giving thanks for this opportunity and taking it all in. Man what a rush! He only ran about 80 yards but went down quietly because I never heard a crash. I gave him plenty time and took up the trail and this is how I found him. I ate my Kansas Tag the last 2 seasons waiting on a buck with character. This guy has some character!
