I slept in this morning, and have a few things to do at the house this evening so no hunting today. There's an old friend of my Dad's that has a place on the other end of the county where I go to fish quite a bit. I usually get the invite to hunt a couple times every year, and I got it today!! So I'll be going out there in the morning. Nobody hunts on the property but him, and his idea of hunting these days (he's pushing 80) is to shoot them when he catches them in his flower beds!! And there's some big deer on this place too. There's only one deer stand on the place and it's a box blind so this will be another rifle hunt. I have the green light to shoot whatever I want, but I'll probably just try to fill my other doe tag. It'll have to be pretty impressive for me to shoot a buck with a rifle this early in the season, but it's always a possibility there lol. He's one of those old time hunters that has spent a lifetime in the woods and killed a ton of big bucks, and it's awesome for me just to hang out with him and hear his stories. I was fortunate to grow up around and learn from a lot of these old timers, but sadly he's about the only one left that I know personally. I'm looking forward to it!!

Had a great hunt this morning!! Right after shooting light I had a couple does come in. I was planning to fill my other doe tag, but didn't want to shoot one quite that soon because I was fairly confident I'd see some more deer. After 5 minutes or so a small 8 point came in. He was legal but just a youngster. The does left and he stayed for a good bit. Eventually a spike came in and fed with him, and they finally went on. About 9:00 I had a big doe and twin fawns come in. Normally I don't mind shooting a doe with a fawn as long as the fawn is a decent size. Both of these fawns were big, and I watched her through the scope and probably clicked the safety off 3 or 4 times trying to talk myself into it lol...but they ended up getting a pass too. I think it's just been so slow on my place I enjoyed getting to go somewhere else and actually watch some deer. And I got invited back next week, so there will be a round 2. I just had lunch and I'm gonna shoot my bow a little bit, then head to my lease to bow hunt this afternoon. I've got a couple spots in mind but not sure which one I'm gonna hunt yet. I'd really like another chance at that buck that slipped in behind me a couple weeks ago!

Well I forgot my harness and don't have my ghost blind in the truck so I had to switch it up. I found a spot alongside an old logging road where I could fit my stool in some pretty thick brush. Broke a few branches off so I could shoot over the top and I'm settled in. 12 yard shot to the far side of the road. I don't have any corn out but they aren't eating much corn anyway so I've got just a good a chance of catching one traveling through as I do catching one at a corn pile. Maybe better even.

Smart decision on not hunting without a harness. I applaud you for it. My closest buck I shot in a stand just like yours. I was using a Hawkin and the buck was so close I never lifted my rifle. Literally shot from the hip and the poor deer had powder burns right behind his shoulder. It's fun lol
Goodluck
