Recommendation for some new arrows. Where to buy?

    Guys,

I'd like to pick up some new arrows this season. Looking for a dozen or two 400's, 29" - 29 1/2' with 100gr inserts set up and ready to hunt (I prefer carbon but would consider POF, Fir, or Spruce). You guys have any recommendations on where to purchase? I shoot a 60" Centaur Triple Carbon Elite longbow approx 55# at my draw length. I'm in San Antonio, if it matters. Any info is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jason

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but I always start my arrow search at Big Jims Bows. I like the Goldtip arrows, and occasionally he sales some blemished arrows a lot cheaper then you can find others. If you call him and tell them your set-up I am most positive they can take care of it.
Second art of that is the postal service lost a set I had ordered and they replaced them with no hassle. First rate company and service. Just my .02 Cents

Thanks Dry Bones. I'm just trying to find some hunting quality arrows that aren't $200.00 a dozen, lol . I'll Give Big Jim a try. I had forgotten about him. I know he used to have those Ted Nugent GT arrows fairly cheap.

Are you looking to buy pre made?
If you have a fletching jig; your average dz will run you around $100.
        Inserts extra $18
        Points extra $5
        Glue $7
You can add splicing, wraps, etc. and make your arrow a $200 dozen.

Mesquivel, I'll looking for something ready to hunt. I don't own a fletching jig yet but I may consider one soon, seeing how pricey pre-mades have gotten.

You may find a certain sense of accomplishment building your own arrows. I have made arrows for over 30 years and I will continue to make my own, good Lord willing. I do buy Big Jim GT Blems shafts and have had very good luck with them. Good luck and let us know which way you end up going.

There is also 3rivers and Lancaster archery. They build custom order arrows. I've never used them for that... and apparently never buy wood from them

I also build my own now. I did have to spend some $ on a fletching jig and made a jig so I could use my dremel to cut carbon shafts. But now I am paying $80 for a dozen of fully fletched and cut arrows instead of $132 that I was paying at a local shop. After I get through 2 dozen, I will have paid for the jigs and the glue.

Thanks SwampRabbit. I may stick with what I currently have for now and look into a fetching jig and arrow building supplies.

I just went into big jim's and typed in as if I where to order a dozen.

400 spine blems, cut to 29.5 with 5" shild cut (solid color) fletchings came out to $97.
Add about 10-12 for shipping and there you have it.

If you do get into building your own, I have several dozen Gold Tip XT Hunter black shafts in .400 spine that I no longer use, and would be willing to sell.

Just let me know if you are interested.

                      Well, there you go.

You get some that have been already trained to hit the bullseye.
Just try not put them in the same quiver with wood arrows or they'll just jump right out.

The last set I bought from Jim was the blemished Nugent pinks, (very easy to find in the woods). I have a jig and cut my own fletchings, cut my length and add brass inserts, so the only thing I am paying for is the raw carbon shaft. Hopefully at some point it will be wood only, but that's yet to happen. The Nugents or the traditionals both shoot the same for me if the spine is the same. You might should hit Bisch up for his though. Sounds like a better deal.

Thanks again, guys. Busch, let me find a could of .400 to try out and I'll let you know. Hopefully I can pick up a couple this weekend in between dove hunts.

If you were closer to me, or are headed thru the Austin area, I would give you a couple to try.

                              Just let me know.
