That's what I've been doing, and been shooting from a treestand in the backyard a little as well. I'm gonna have to stay under 15 yards this year, but I'm ok with it. I was hoping I'd be able to hunt out to 20 but realistically I don't think it's gonna happen. I can put 10 out of 10 arrows in the kill zone at 15 and about 5 out of 5 at 20. Don't know why adding those 5 yards is so hard...

All this time to start stuff has me a little confused. I shoot as close to daily as possible and by the threads I assume a lot of you do the same. When I shoot I almost always try to think about the location of the shot and where the "spot" actually is. My only deer taken with my recurve was from the ground at just under 15. She did not duck at all, I got a little over excited and shot a little far back, but it all worked out. Being that I have relatively NO real experience. Do all of you really aim/focus on a spot much lower then intended impact point?

If you can routinely put 10/10 in the kill zone at 15yds, you are good to go. I have shot 12 whitetails in the last 3 seasons, and my longest shot was 15yds!

Just remember that the kill zone on a 3D target is not all that accurate. There are a lot of shots on a 3D deer that will be inside the 8 ring (supposedly lungs), but would result in a lost deer if put in the same place on a live animal. Keep it low and tight!

Some do, I do not. I aim very low, but on the deer. I usually wait for a slightly quartering away shot. This allows me to use the "crease" as my aim point. The crease is a very definite point that I can usually pick out and focus strongly on. By doing this, if the deer does not move, it is a perfect heart shot, but if the deer does duck, most of the time the hit will still be right in the middle of the lungs. I also try real hard to not shoot at a deer that is looking at me or on high alert. You are just asking for headaches when you do that!

Also, for me, a spot is a spot! It does not matter to me if I am shooting at a 12 ring in the middle of a 3D target, or a tuft of hair tucked tight in the crease of a live critter. I am still aiming at a spot, and I know as soon as the arrow hits whether or not I hit my "spot".

I'm definitely going to keep it close. I talked to Mike McCready yesterday, and my new bow is headed my way as of this morning too. Should be here Saturday or Monday at the latest. I should have time to get it tuned up and get comfortable with it. Than I'm going to try my best to stop buying bows for a while!!
