    longbow riser material

I'm planning on making a longbow soon and i was thinking about making the riser out of lignum vitae. Does anybody know if this type of wood would work?

I just looked it up, and I think it would work just fine for a bow riser. It is known for its strength and density.

Have you worked with lignum vitae before? I think it would be a real challenge and very hard on tools. I have a woodworking mallet made out of that stuff and it is incredibly hard and dense.

Back in the old days they used it for bearing blocks if that gives you any idea how tough it is.

I kind of favor Zebra wood for my bow handles.

Almost anything will work. The riser is a non working part. That wood is not easy to work though.
