    Changing my anchor point

Dear Lord help me get through this!

Anybody else take the plunge and change their anchor point after shooting with the same one for a couple years? Did you make the transition pretty quick, or did you find yourself falling back to the old one too often?

yep. Got a bow last year that was a little shorter in DL and i just dealed with it. I shot better than ever. Practice practice.

It's all about muscle memory! Hit the anchor every single time, concentrate on the anchor every single time; do this until it feels natural and then get back to your normal shot sequence.

You can also incorporate if into the shot sequence but then come back to the anchor before you trigger the shot. This will be more difficult for most than just concentrating on the new anchor point; but if you have a good, regimented shot sequence it may be the better method.

Just remember, it is about the new anchor and not about anything else during the muscle training.

Bear in mind, that I am shooting trad. That means a whole new sight picture that has to be relearned. It is not just muscle memory, so the journey is a tad bit more complex and has to be broken down. If I could just shift my sight pins up... it would be a no brainer Then again if I had sight pins... I wouldn't bother with a new anchor

I am actually doing this because with my current bow, the sight picture is not optimal inside about 8-10 yards. I had been putting off changing my anchor because during WT season, it was manageable. But now that spring is upon me, dealing with less than jumpy animals and small targets up close... I have to do something about it. That means moving my anchor point from the corner of my mouth to touching the bottom of my cheek. In reality, it should make me more accurate since there should be less slop using the cheek bone as a reference.

It's always a good idea to make a lot of changes 1 week before a hunting and 3D weekend

See, this is why it is so hard to make the switch. Thought the same thing just before WT season.

Thought about face walking. Using the high (new) anchor for inside 10 and keep the rest the same for beyond 10 yards. But I don't want to have to rely on that in the future.

You just have to decide what you want to do and run with it. What you are going thru is normal, and all of us either went thru it, or are going thru it in our trad journey!!!

Bet you can make the adjustment in a few dozen shots! The brain learns fast!

I went through 2 differant anchor points before settling on my third, and been shooting that point for 5 yrs now with intent on changing . Each one was an improvement . Each change was a learning curve .

I switched from split finger to three under several years ago.

It changed my sight picture and it took a few weeks to start hitting again. It was frustrating but worth the effort.

Ha ha ha... I definitely deserve that.

I am an engineer... that should explain it enough. Overthinking and questioning is what I do when I know I don't know what I am doing.
