I've built a number of osage bows and never thought about the color change that occurs with time and (I'm assuming) the exposure to light but is there a finish that can prevent this change? I've got some scraps that I'm making toys for grandkids and was hoping they would stay the original yellow. If it's not possible that's ok too.

You can't stop the change. You can only slow it down by limiting exposure to sunlight and putting a good seal on it, like the Massey finish or the Thunderbird epoxy finish. -

That is the beauty of osage. It only means you have enjoyed the bow which you have made for a long time. They get gorgeous after about two years with about 6-8 coats of true oil on them! ArvinComment

Best way to insure that you keep that bright yellow color in your hand is to keep making more! But seriously, as has been said, the changing in color is just one part of the appeal of Osage. As Mr. Weaver said.....multiple coats of Tru Oil sure makes it look pretty!Comment
